What Are You Afraid Of?

I was browsing my bookshelf the other day, and seeing Susan Jeffers book “Feel the Fear and do it Anyway” reminded me that some time ago, I had the privilege of talking to a lady from Zimbabwe who had been evicted from her farm, along with her friend who had not only lost her farm, but whose husband had been murdered whilst trying to defend himself and his family. The two women had arrived in this country with their children, and were trying to start a new life. There is no doubt that they had gone through a terrifying ordeal. (more…)

Overcoming Social Anxiety

As someone who has personally suffered with severe Social Anxiety, I went through several phases of learning how to deal with it and eventually overcome it: denial, hiding it, being ashamed of it, and finally, learning to accept it and work through it. One thing that really helped me was reading about someone famous, someone I admired who admitted they had Social Anxiety and even laughed about it! At the time, I felt deeply ashamed of my anxiety around people, and it really amazed me that this person could be so light-hearted about it. (more…)
